What is your wish?

On our way home from dance last night, McCaiden was nearly falling asleep. It was only 6:45 but with time change, she is ready for bed some nights before it gets dark and is up with the first light of morning. So we were looking at the stars and she wanted to make a wish. She wished for a certain Barbie house that she just can't live without. I always wish for the same thing... health. I hope for wisdom and wealth but always wish for health.

Before I had kids, I never really paid close attention to health. If I got sick or Dennis was sick, it was no big deal. Just curl up and sleep it off. No such luck these days! With work, two kids, a long commute, dance, play dates, school activities... who has time to be sick! I sprained my ankle a week ago. So I have been milking evenings for all they are worth, laying on the couch with my foot up to keep the swelling down. But I still have to go to work, drive to dance, conferences and take the stairs at work when the elevators are being worked on.

Dennis got really sick about 18 months ago. We still don't know what he has. Doctors call it some kind of virus. He has his good days and bad days. And lately, thankfully, his good days are outnumbering the bad. But when its bad, its bad and it worries me to no end. When he first got sick, I thought for sure he was dieing. When no one had answers, I prayed for a tumor or brain mass or something just so we would have an answer and we could deal with it. I spent a few evenings the Spring of 2007 in the ER on the phone with brother in law crying my eyes out, alone, while Dennis was having tests done. Feeling so helpless. What was I going to do without him?

Thru it all, this "virus" has brought us a lot closer. We were best friends before but now we are so close. It really opened my eyes.. health is what matters. Health is what counts.

So with every rainbow, eyelash, first star, double digits on the the clock, every candle I blow out - I wish for health.
