Because We Are...

Sewing has been a passion of mine since I was a young child. It is in my blood. My entire family, aunts, cousins, grandmothers, all are great creators of things made from fabric, yarn, and thread.

My grandparents (my mom's parents) had 6 girls and all of them are quite handy with the sewing machine. I have great memories at my grandmothers side as a child, handing her squares of fabric that she would sew into a beautiful quilt. Playing in her button box. My cousins and I spent endless hours under the quilt frame as the grown ups hand quilted a blanket. It was our hideout, our fort.

She, my grandma, instilled this passion in all her girls and that has been passed to the next generation. We have a twice yearly retreat, usually once in the spring and once in the fall, at my Aunt Molli's cabin. The retreat started the August after my grandma passed away. We all gathered and went thru bags and bags of clothing, cutting it up, snipping off buttons, and dividing it amongst us all so we could all make our own "grandma quilt". A tradition started. My cousin, Rachel, started by sending out fabric pieces and an invitation. We were to make a quilt square using the supplied fabric and then when we met at the cabin, a name would be drawn (Kari, another cousin, was the winner of the first quilt!). That person would get all the quilt blocks and create a quilt for herself. She would also be in charge of the next gathering. And so, some 2.5 years later, the tradition lives on... we make more than quilts and other sewing projects during that weekend, we make memories. Memories that will last us forever.

Because We Are
is a link to my heritage. Every time I sit in front of the sewing machine, with my kids sitting there, playing in the button box or drawing, I am taken back to when I did the very same thing with my grandma. I don't have alot of time on my hands these days. With a longer commute to and from work, a full time job, two kids and their activities, I find myself longing to just sit and sew! But slowly but surely, I find some time to be creative on my own and I have listed those creations in my Etsy shop.

Stop by and check out my offerings. I try to add a little each week, and I always have creations rolling around in my head that I just need to find the time to make them come to fruition.
